FAQ

  • From the time you submit your project proposal, to the time of submitting the final proof of concept, the competition will be a duration of 6 weeks
  • The proposal should clearly outline:
    • the purpose of this product
    • who the product is aimed at
    • why you selected this product
    • how it will be helpful to our community
  • Feel free to be as creative as you’d like, some ideas include:
    • A children’s book version of one of the books you read
    • A board game
    • An abridged version of one of the books you read
    • History timeline apps
    • Quiz apps
    • Youtube video series
    • Rewriting the book from the perspective of a different character
    • Movie trailer for the book
    • Podcast about the book or any topic therein
    • Merchandise based on the book

No, the participants are only expected to submit a Proof of Concept (PoC) as their final submission, not a full complete product

  • A proof of concept for your final product should outline what your final product will look like and be an initial draft of the idea. For examples
    • If the final product is a children’s book – the PoC could be a pdf of the draft book – with all the pages of the book
    • If the final product is a board game – the PoC could be a PDF or a video explaining the rules of the game, the layout of the board and pieces (if it involves a board and pieces), all the cards displayed in the pdf (if it is a card game)
    • If the final product is a series of youtube videos – the PoC could be a pdf or a video, with the slides/ content that will shown in the video, with details of how the video will be created/presented

The finals will be held in person in Houston TX from June 12-14. It will be held alongside DCF’s other flagship event – Dharma in Digital Age conference. dcfusa.org/dda

No, the tickets for the travel to the finals and the accommodation must be taken care of by you. However, as a Tejas participant, you get a complimentary access to the entire conference.

  • The finals will typically include a series of time limited, in-person tasks that you need to complete. The finals will also include an opportunity to present the project you have worked on for the duration of the Bookathon.

Outside of the initial introduction call and a second call right before the submissions of your project proposals, there are no commitments to meetings during the competition. You may reach out to the team should you need further assistance, but attending regular meetings is not a commitment the participants need to make.

The structure for the bookathon accommodates all schedules, each participant can put in as much time as they would like into the competition. There will be no regular bi-weekly submissions for this competition. There will only be TWO submissions, a project proposal for your chosen project, and the final proof of concept of your product. There are no other commitments or submissions you’ll need to partake in.

  • We will have an introductory call introducing the competition/ rules to the group. At this time, the participants can also all get to know each other and we will be creating a WhatsApp group so they can stay in touch. The participants will always have the option of having more frequent self-organized meetings amongst themselves should they wish – they can also request us to set up a cadence for meet ups for them if they prefer that.
  • The WhatsApp group chat should be led by the participants and can just be used as a platform for friends to communicate.

There are no compulsory author sessions that are planned as of now, to give the participants full freedom with as little commitments as possible – but we can put up polls in the WhatsApp group asking if people would like us to schedule any – and we can proceed as they choose.

The participants will be given a list of books that follow a theme, and they will select a couple of books from this list to read and use as inspiration for their final product.

  • A community of like-minded people in similar stages of their lives
  • A chance to get started on an Indic dream project that they never put time towards. They can get valuable feedback on it from more experienced people in the community
  • A chance to explore how they can put their skills to use in the Indic space and not just their day to day work to create a product
  • Cash prize of course
  • Get to read books!
  • Get to explore new books in the Indic field
